Modern Romance:
The DVF Tiana Dress

Lace is on everyone’s minds right now, and the DVF Tiana dress checks all the boxes for what a modern lace style should be. Bright, geometric and surprisingly sexy, this dress brings heirloom quality without the stuffy character. Delicate ties and colorful jewelry add interest to this summer-ready look, while a zodiac clutch brings a playful pop and a valuable (not to mention functional) reminder to go for it and design your own destiny!

Weekend Update:
Summer Whites

Whether or not you believe in fashion rules (we, for the record, most emphatically do not), you’re sure to notice an influx of white post Memorial Day. Even a woman for whom leopard is a neutral can take a palette cleanser every now and again, so we’ve assembled our favorite fresh whites that are so DVF.
The Iggy Bag: White can be totally rock ‘n’ roll (example: Bianca Jagger’s wedding suit), which is why  our leather-and-chain Iggy works so well in this summer-ready shade.
The Arlette Jacket: This intricate lace jacket sold out almost immediately on DVF.com, but if you absolutely need it to refresh your favorite work shift or jeans, you’re in luck: it’s still available in select DVF shops and at neimanmarcus.com—for now.
The Genesis Pant: This slim stretch trouser quickly became a favorite for bringing a certain (very flattering) lightness to work and weekend.
The Fiorenza Dress: We are currently obsessed with lace, and this fit and flare dress is a super chic way to wear the trend.
The Bitsy Bag: If you were overzealous in your spring cleaning, and have pared your purse down to the absolute minimum, we can’t think of a better micro mini bag than the Bitsy. If you’re still stuck on a tote, this is a great wallet substitute as well.
The Lauryn Top: We’ve elevated the plain white tee with front pleating and a neckline in – you guessed it – a modern, geometric, must-have white lace.

SO DVF:
May

Model Megan Williams lit up the Cannes Film Festival circuit this week in a series of DVF looks. For the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala, where DVF donated a look to the runway-auction, Williams chose a glittering embellished wrap dress, first seen during the DVF Fall 2016 Experience on Karlie Kloss. She finished the look with the Tonda minaudière, a sleek clutch she also carried to the De Grisogono Party. This time she paired it with a vintage Qipao wrap dress for a fresh yet dramatic look.

NYLON’s Young Hollywood Party brought out the brightest (not to mention most powerful) young faces today, from Jaden Smith and Lucky Blue Smith (no relation!) to Justine Skye and Kylie Jenner. Model Ireland Baldwin was on hand, looking one part Old Hollywood, one part new starlet in our graphic DVF Frederica slip dress embellished with sequins and lace. For a fresh take on glamour, she skipped mom Kim Basinger’s blonde curls for pin straight locks – and added an armful of finely drawn tattoos.

The 2016 amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala

“An ode to all-out fierceness” is how Carine Roitfeld has described the runway she curated for the 2016 amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala. Technically it is “The Disco Collection” but either way, it’s no surprise Ms. Roitfeld asked Diane to donate a look for the fashionable fundraiser. Hosted at the eternally glamorous Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, the event is always a highlight of the Cannes film festival circuit, featuring models of the moment in jaw-dropping gowns that are auctioned off for charity. To mix things up a bit, and pay tribute to that 70s theme, we sent a dazzling embellished wrap jumpsuit from our Fall 2016 Collection down the glittering runway on Valery Kaufman. After the show, it was auctioned to raise funds for amfAR’s work to end AIDS.

Sister Act:
Danielle & Jodie of DANNIJO

We absolutely love sister-entrepreneurs Danielle and Jodie Snyder. Together they’re the force behind jewelry brand DANNIJO, but they don’t just create bold, made-in-NYC cool girl pieces—they’ve also had women’s empowerment in mind since day one. We also happen to love their style, so while we caught up with the pair, we shot them in some of the season’s best DVF looks, styled their way. Read on for the story of their brand, and their unique, complimentary sister style.

Tell us about each of your roles at DANNIJO, and how your business was founded.
Danielle:
I’m Creative Director and Jodie is CEO. That said, we’re sisters and have had the company for eight years so we have an incredibly interesting and dynamic way of working together. We’re involved in every aspect of the business but Jodie manages more of the business side, whereas I design the collections and manage more of the marketing side. We’ve been making jewelry since childhood—we taught ourselves how to do wirework on our father’s medical tools at a young age. We launched DANNIJO in 2008 and continue to handmake all of our jewelry in New York.

Since the beginning, you have promoted sustainable economic opportunity for women. What inspired this focus, and what initiatives are in progress today?
Danielle: After visiting Kenya in 2006, I co-founded a non-profit that fundraised for grass roots initiatives in Africa. Jodie and I designed a capsule jewelry collection to fundraise for the cause. We’ve always been passionate about empowering women in underdeveloped areas of the world and want DANNIJO to be a platform for sustainable economic opportunity. To this end we partnered with Indego Africa and women’s cooperatives in Rwanda to handmake the DANNIJO.com packaging. To date we are one of their longest standing partnerships and continue to grow our business together.

You each selected your looks for this shoot. What drew you to the pieces, and how do they represent your personal style?
Danielle: I love white lace because it’s feminine and easy to accessorize. I reversed the jacket so the zipper was in the back for a more casual vibe. My style tends to be bohemian, rock’n’roll.
Jodie: I like the combo of orange and silver. My style is pretty classic, and I love to accessorize with statement jewelry.

When creating a look, do you start with jewelry, or ready-to-wear?
It depends on the day, but we always accessorize!

The Rehearsal Dinner Dress

We don’t mean to be alarmist, but while you’re planning (stressing) that rehearsal dinner speech, don’t forget that what you wear matters, too. Let’s start with the shoes: go for a very high heel that lends confidence and is secure—this is no time for a slingback to slip off! As for the dress, we love the romance of a floral lace, but make sure it’s a modern one, so it doesn’t feel bridal. A bright color may be tempting, but in this case we’re all for black: it won’t show drips from the glass of wine you had before the speech, or any evidence of the hors d’oeuvre your new bff the flower girl dropped squarely in your lap. Added benefits of this particular LBD: the slightly flared skirt is universally flattering, and the v-neck shows off your neckline and works with your favorite jewelry, but isn’t scandalously low. For your finishing touches, remember you were invited to be a bridesmaid, not a wallflower! Dazzle with a gold clutch that will go with your wedding look, petite earrings and, for your touch of color, a bold and fabulous coral cuff.

Print of the Moment:
Shalamar Trellis

Confession: we’re more or less obsessed with spring. Flowers coming up, summer on the horizon,  rooftop and garden parties to plan… oh, and dress for of course! If your head is stuck in the flowers like ours, you’ll understand the appeal of our print of the moment: Shalamar trellis. Inspired by a centuries-old wood block printing technique and the layouts of English gardens, this print, which comes in both white and pink, is our choice for greeting all things spring!

Your (Grown Up) Graduation Look

If you’re anything like us, your undergraduate under-gown situation was… cringeworthy. So today we’re tackling the medical/law/graduate/business school graduation look, so you can show everybody you’ve learned a lot these past few years—including from your sartorial mistakes. Let’s start with the obvious: this Kera dress has gorgeous embellishment that screams celebration, on a silhouette with confident ease. A ladylike bag like this Soirée in blossom pink will be timeless in photos, but adds playful texture with a patchwork of luxe lizard. Keep the rest of your accessories simple, adding just a drop earring (to leave room for any bejeweled gifts!). And now, the shoes. If you’re facing a multi-part affair, we recommend a chic succession of footwear: a brilliant lace up flat (coming soon!) for large day occasions, followed by a sophisticated heel for your intimate celebrations… and networking events in the months to come!
